For a 165 years, no one has known the birth date of whiskey maker Jack Daniel, but they arrived on September as a time for month-long celebrations. This year, Jack Daniel’s, who has previously hosted the awards shows and the like is now hosting birthday gigs across the country all through September. With sets by Karsh Kale in Mumbai and electro rockers The F16s in Chennai and Bangalore in the past week, the birthday celebrations wind down with some of the biggest electronica artists playing shows this weekend.

The Raise a Jack to Jack gig series this week includes sets by Midival Punditz and Dualist Inquiry in Delhi, The Elektrovertz in Pune, DJ Clement in Bangalore and Zaeden in Kolkata. This is technically round two for the Punditz, who played a special set with Karsh Kale at Blue Frog, Mumbai on September 12. The duo told us, “Our set at Mumbai was a semi-live set with our long-time collaborator Karsh Kale and we had a blast the place was packed to capacity.”

It’s going to be a different set this time around at Raasta. The duo says it’ll be an “out and out DJ set with high energy.” They add, “The set will be different but the BPMs will remain as high as Mumbai. It will be a mix of a lot of genres of electronic music.”

Riding high on the release of their latest album Light, Midival Punditz are sticking to promoting their album with at least two more months of a “manic performance schedule.” The duo told us, “The next album is starting to churn within us so let’s see where that takes us.”

Apart from all that, it’s a gig in the heart of their home town after all. The locals in them are delighted to be playing to one of their favourite audiences. The duo says, “As an artist, the exchange of energy with the crowd is what keeps us going and Delhi has a great mix of audience for us, whenever we have performed here. When we do our DJ set, the people come with us on this heady ride of deep bass and break beat music and when we do our live set. They are happy to be taken on a more melodic journey and very few cities give you such a wide range of audience.”
