You know what you gotta do. Try and add a little something about the band/track/album. Don't be a bitch.

Morbid Angel - Dominate

Listening to a lot of MA these days. Actually just started getting into death metal (and the derivatives) since the last few months. With this current djent wave and meshuggah worship I kind of realize what role these big DM bands must have played in the late 80s/early 90s. Bands like Death, Obituary, Morbid Angel, CC, Deicide etc.

I mean an album on the level of Domination imo, being released today won't be garnering that rave a review today. Although i believe there will be some people who do not like Domination at all :P

Kickstarted the day with The Shining's latest, Blackjazz: Most of the songs were tightly constructed, and got a bit too much for me to handle / attentively listen to. There was some filler as well. I felt the sax ke saath mein khilaav was a bit too much.

Also reheard Artillerie's album. Meh. Average. Nothing stuck in my head.

Today, I played Benediction's Killing Music after the longest time. Not a really popular albums with their fans, but there's something on this album that just does it for me. There are killer tracks mixed with some poor ones.

Great for somebody who wants to hear some chunky guitar tone with metal that is somewhere between death and classic. I like stuff like this playing in the background while I read or work.

Animals as Leaders - Animals as Leaders

So after hearing all the hype (read: HYPE) about djent and math and anyone-who-owns-an-8-string-guitar-can-play-djent-hellyeah, one band I really got hooked on to was/is TesseracT. Its a pity I'll be missing them at GIR but nonetheless, I started checking out more "djent". Honestly, it IS overrated and NONE of the bands seemed to impress me (ESPECIALLY the likes of Periphery, Fell Silent, Textures er...the so-called pioneers).

And then came Mr. Tosin Abasi...fuck this guy can shred! Mad riffage, melodies as crazy and discordant as in your face and obvious. Though his "djentness" can be questioned, his stuff is definitely worth checking out!

+1. Animals As Leaders was brutal compared to Periphery and crew.

Anyhoo, the commute today had Forbidden's new album, Omega Wave. While the first couple of tracks had me hooked, i lost interest half way in and only came back with Immortal Wounds right through the final track. Big fan of the tones, and Anderson's Tom Araya-esque vocals, but not his whiny clean singing voice.

Oh, and followed it up with Judas Priest's British Steel.

Heard Coroner's Grin, and boy, i fucking love this album. Got hooked on to the band through Mental Vortex, and this was the second album i heard. Just wish the production was crispier

Currently playing Monster Magnet's new one, Mastermind - thank goodness i watch WWE. Matt Hardy's theme song introduced me to the band, and i must say, these guys are probably one of the most under-appreciated outfits today. Strong songs, great lyrics, a slightly aggressive and heavy vibe from their previous albums = Win!

Slept through most of Kalmah's 12 Gauge, and it did provide a gentle background score while i did. Need to listen to this one again. Ozzy Osbourne's No More Tears was next, and this woke me up.
