Arjun Iyer's New Solo Project, Barty's Path

Aug 23, 02:38pm

Mumbai based guitarist and vocalist Arjun Iyer - of Gumbal and Eatshootleave fame - has released the debut single from his upcoming solo project, Barty's Path's full length album.

Bombay based guitarist and vocalist Arjun Iyer has released his upcoming solo orchestral world music project, Barty’s Path’s debut single, ‘Valor/Squalor’ – off of an upcoming, probably self titled full length album. “I’m at a stage where I have no idea whether the album or the project is called Barty’s Path,” said creator, Arjun, “The initial idea was that it’s going to be the journey of this guy called Barty, who’s going around the world. So, it is essentially going to be a world music-ish album; there are going to be a lot of different songs like, there’s going to be a polka song, and there will be a gypsy like song, etc.” While tracking is still in progress, Arjun predicts the release of the debut to be out sometime late September, this year.

There’s a glitch though, Arjun is still contemplating on how to take this orchestral, symphonic act to a live stage; having made his views on backtracking on stage very clear. “I’m recording everything except, I have a flautist who we are playing with, and I know a very good violinist who we might be working with. There’s going to be a lot of orchestration, some of it is programmed, but we’re going to have some musicians play live also. So, that should be fun, but I have no idea how to take it live because I don’t know any orchestra, and I don’t want to play this live off of laptops.”

But with Gumbal bassist, Satish Shridhar, moving into the city in the recent future, Arjun seems to be very pleased with the present state of affairs. “There may be another Gumbal album in the next couple of months,” Arjun told us, “We’re getting some material ready. And then there is Barty’s Path, and Eatshootleave is also working on album. So if things go well, I should have three more albums coming out by the end of the year or early next year.”
