On the 9th of July, 2013 a video, almost 8 minutes in length, made an appearance on Youtube and was seen finding its way around scenesters’ walls as day turned to afternoon. Shot inside one of the many jam-rooms that Delhi has, the video is the only window that exists between the world and the yet-to-go-live Sundogproject.
Wait. Click here to watch the video.
While one might have previously heard about Sundogproject by virtue of a few soundcloud samples and its “scene” associations (that’s producer Anupam Roy on bass) the lifted veil reveals Viraj (Another Vertigo Rush) and Shardul (Joint Family) handling guitars/synths and drums respectively. Anupam, who has also played with Narsil (besides producing the likes of Joint Family and Bhayanak Maut amongst many other bands), when asked about the same, had this to say: “Well the video… Shardul usually has two floor drums and one was missing, I was not with my regular equipment as well.” What we also learnt from him was that Rahul Sainani (Joint Family, anyone?) who is also part of the lineup, was absent from the video.
Despite its mini super-group status, Sundogproject, as Anupam informed us, is actually the brainchild of Rahul Das who used to be a part of Incognito which had been active during the early 2000s. Despite his dormancy from active music-making we’ve been told that the band has been working on this material for about eight months and ‘Witching Hour’ is a sonic meld of ideas from the industrial and alternative sphere; clearly an indication of things to come.
We spoke to Rahul who revealed tentative plans of going live in September and a few other single releases (probably another video too). When our over-eager reporter wanted to know about any album prospects all he said was, “I don’t know what you want to know”.
