Knowing the Indian metal canvas through 11 bands of the country.

If there is any music genre that binds together a fan-base throughtout the world, no matter where you are from, it is metal music. The genre  found its roots in India since a long time and it is no surprise that bands are now touring the world, getting recognised and signed on by international agencies and labels. Here is a list of bands that have been part of that Indian metal canvas consolidating a spirit in music that has always been universal.

 

Kryptos:

 

Maitaining the old school traditional heavy metal mixed with the agression of the 80's thrash, Kryptos have been successful in evoking the true spirit of heavy metal. Considered as one of the heavyweights of the Indian metal scene, Kryptos still headlines the country's biggest gigs and festivals.

 

 

Agni:

 

Remembered as one of the premier metal bands, Agni released a classic album called "Wind Dance with Fire" in 1994. Agni's music was released on Virgo Music label at the time marking as one of the early heavy metallers to rock the scene in India. 

 

 

 

Millenium:

 

Millenium started in 1987 with a line-up comprising of vocalist Vehrnon Ibrahim, guitarists Rio and Cecil, bass player Stanley and drummer Roberto. Their promotional video for the single "Peace Just In Heaven" claimed the "Skull Krusher of the week" award on India MTV's "HeadBanger's Ball" show. Millenium opened for Deep Purple and No Doubt and released two albums through Crescendo Label and an independent release respectively.

 

 

 

Devoid:

 

A death/thrash metal band from Mumbai, Devoid was formed in 2005. Devoid was signed to Demonstealer Records in 2010 to release their debut album "A God's Lie" and performed at the Inferno Metal Festival India in 2014.

 

 

 

Demonic Resurrection:

 

Formed in 2000, Demonic Resurrection has released 5 studio albums and 1 EP. Often regarded as the torchbearer of Indian Metal to a global audience, the band's 4th full-length album, The Demon King was released on July 13, 2014 in India, July 14 in Europe and July 15 in the USA by Candlelight Records and distributed in India by Unversal Music.

 

 

 

Bhayanak Maut:

 

Formed in November 2003, Bhayanak Maut is one of the premier metal acts from India. Having toured internationally through mutliple festivals, the band has also shared the stage with international acts like Lamb of God, Fear Factory, Satyricon, Textures, Sahg, Benea Reach, Intronaut and Amon Amarth. 

 

 

 

Undying Inc:

 

Undying Inc are a lethal blend of speed, technique, groove and extreme aggression! One of the oldest in the Indian metal scene, Undying Inc has performed across festivals like Great Indian Rock, Nh7 Weekender, Inferno Metal festival Oslo & India, BIG69, Bangalore Open Air and supported names like Meshuggah, Tesseract, Textures, Satyricon, Megadeth, Intronaut, Sikth, Amon Amarth, Carcass, Belphegor, Napalm Death among others. Undying Inc have recently released a new music video of their latest release "Alpha Absolute" with new London based bassist Carl Dawkins. 

 

 

 

The Down Troddence:

 

TDT are known for their unique blend of conventional Thrash and Groove Metal with a large dose of traditional Kerala folk music elements, art forms such as Theyyam. The band also incorporates a lot of traditional folk sounds and instruments in the form of ambient layers in their music. A common theme in The Down Troddence music is the effort to project the voice of the under-privileged and down-trodden people.

 

 

 

 

Skyharbor:

 

An Indian/American Progressive metal band with members from New Delhi  and Mumbai, India; and Cleveland, Ohio -USA, after signing with Basick Records, Skyharbor released its debut album Blinding White Noise: Illusion and Chaos on 23 April 2012 worldwide as a double-disc album (Illusion and Chaos), featuring vocalists Tompkins and Sunneith Revankar from Bhayanak Maut on each disc respectively. Skyharbor plays a style of progressive metal drawing elements of the orchestration of Oceansize and Karnivool and the dream pop influenced alternative metal of the Deftones. Interestingly, they are currently on tour supporting Deftones on all European shows are part of 2017 Gore Tour.

 

 

 

Amongst Denied:

 

Amongst Denied are an Experimental Metal band from Pune. The band's music is formulated upon progressive time signatures, melodic grooves and complex guitar and ambient layers. Formed in the middle of 2010 in Pune, India, the band's sound and music structure is of djent nature and maintains a unique sound while exxploring in their realm of songwriting in metal music.

 

 

 

 

Amogh Symphony:


Amogh Symphony is an Avant-Garde Jazz/Soundtrack Band, comprised of Vishal J.Singh from Mumbai, Derick Gomes from Portugal, Andrey Sazonov from Moscow and Tom Geldschläger from Berlin. It was originally started as a solo studio project by Indian producer Vishal J. Singh in 2004. Their first full length album "Abolishing the obsoloete system" was released in 2009 in which Singh played and recorded all the instruments himself.
