Simpler's Project Release Debut EP

May 14, 10:37am

Kolkata-based ambient electronica duo Simpler's Project recently released their debut four-track EP, Waves. We spoke to producer and member, Diptendu Das, about the duo's plas for the year.

Kolkata’s ambient electronica duo act Simpler’s Project recently released their debut EP, Waves, on SoundCloud. The four-track EP is the duo’s take on an amalgamation of various influences including acoustic/indie rock, electronica, ambient music, and more. “The songs we have put it in this EP are very old,” producer and one half of Simpler’s Project, Diptendu Das, told us, “And very personal and intimate to us. The songwriting process was very organic. It reflects our thoughts, feelings, relationships, and emotional ups and downs. We have immensely experimented to incarnate an organic and identical sound, and tried to give each track a different dimension; as our aim is to be sonically different.”

The EP was recorded at the duo’s DIY home studio setup; “It all started as a bedroom project of mine,” Diptendu told us, “I'm a music producer and I have been making music under this name for quite a few years now. Last year December, Ritaban Das joined in as a singer/songwriter. Before joining in he was a part of an Indie folk project called Pilgrim Treehouse as a singer/songwriter, and had been writing songs for a while. I called Ritaban after listening to his stuff on Soundcloud, and asked him to write songs for my project. I also passed him my own stuff which I had been working on for a couple of years, which is pure electronic music. He didn't know anything about this particular genre [electronica] because he had never put his ears to it and had no idea about how his songs would fit in. He had a couple of songs in his bank that time which he thought we should give a try with.”

The duo plan on an album launch tour in October this year along with a few single releases before beginning work on production for the next album. “We are now totally focusing on the live performances. Actually, I am making an additional 40 minutes of electronic ambient piece to support the four tracks from the EP, on stage. Hope it will be an ultimate experience of collaboration of live ambient electronic experimental music and visuals for our audiences when we will go live.”
