Mixtape's 5-City Tour And Donn Bhat+Passenger Revelator's Journey to Glastonbury

Jun 12, 12:22pm

Mixtape launched a five-city tour featuring some of its best artists, in celebration of its five year anniversary. We spoke to founder Naveen Deshpande about the tour, and Donn Bhat about his journey toward the Glastonbury Festival this year.

Bombay-based artist and event management company Mixtape kicked off a five-city tour on June 11, celebrating the company’s fifth anniversary. “It has been absolutely fantastic,” founder Naveen Deshpande told us. “We started off doing artist management which still remains our forte, but we have now also branched out into doing event production, touring, and bookings across genres. We have internally tried to keep it fresh as much as possible so that none of us get bored of the same work. Of course, there have been ups and downs as any other start up but it has been a learning experience in this blooming independent music industry, and I am very glad to be part of it.” The first performance of the five-city tour was held at Blue Frog in Mumbai featuring performances by Dark Circle Factory and Indus Creed. The tour will travel through Chennai, New Delhi, Bangalore, and Pune over the course of this week, featuring performances including Frame/Frame, Sky Rabbit, Donn Bhat, Noiseware, and more. “We complete five years this June,” Naveen told us, “And, as part of the celebration we have put together a free showcase of artists that we work with. Most of them will be playing a new set from the upcoming season or their new album or EP.”

In other news, Mumbai-based electronica ambient rock outfit Donn Bhat + Passenger Revelator will be heading toward the legendary Glastonbury Festival on June 26, marking himself down as a trailblazer. “I'm excited,” Donn Bhat told us, “Nervous, still not completely believing that we're playing and a whole lot of other emotions. We're planning to play the material off the last album and the upcoming EP. I have played at international festivals before, but Glastonbury is one of a kind.” Donn Bhat will be collaborating with sarangi maestro Suhail Yusuf Khan and percussionist Ashwin Andrew for the upcoming performance at Glastonbury. “I've played and jammed with both of them for years now,” Donn told us. “It was obvious, for me, that I would ask them to play with me at Glastonbury when the gig got confirmed. I would have also loved to have Ashhar Farooqui and Anand Bhagat for the gig but the dates were such that we could not work that out.” Donn Bhat also plans on releasing his upcoming EP, Connected, post July.
